Debby Shuck with Senior Action Partnership provided a program update and made a budget assistance request in the amounts of$9,500.00 to help fund Meals on Wheels and $5,000.00 to help fund RSVP. Meals on Wheels and RSVP 2017 at a glance • Over 17,000 Meals on Wheels meals were delivered in 2017 > This is an increase of over 1,500 meals from 2016. > We averaged between 70-75 clients per day in 2017. > We continue to run 10 routes in Hastings which are delivered by RSVP members and other community volunteers. ➢ We continue to provide nutritious meals to our clients that are prepared according to the doctor's ordered diet. • RSVP(Retired and Senior Volunteer Program)provided almost 43,000 hours of volunteer service to Adams County in 2017(please see attached print out). > Based on the national value of volunteer time,the 2017 RSVP volunteer hours are valued at: $1,038,020. > Two new RSVP stations were added in 2017. As mentioned in the letter sent to the Board of Supervisors on April 17,2018,our Meals on Wheels food provider has increased the amount they are charging us for food by.34 cents per meal. This amounts to a nearly$5,800 increase in food charges per year. We are asking for an additional$1,000 from Adams County this year to help offset this increase. We continue to charge our clients for the cost of food only,which is currently$5.70 per meal. We are respectfully requesting that$9500 for Meals on Wheels and$5000 for RSVP be included in the Adams County 2018-2019 budget. Thank you for continuing to support our programs financially and thank you to those of you who serve on our board of directors,who deliver Meals on Wheels for us,and who are RSVP members! Debby No action was taken regarding financial assistance to Senior Action Inc.as all budget assistance requests will be considered in future budget committee meetings. Adams County Historical Society Director, Elizabeth Spilinek, presented the Board with an update from the Historical Society office and submitted a budget assistance request in the amount of$12,400.00. No action was taken on Spilinek's request as budget assistance requests will be considered during future budget committee meetings. 167 IPage The Adams County Historical Society continues its mission of cceecting,preserving,and making avadabie to the public the history of Adams County and of the Great Plains, The number of researchers using the archive continues at about 2..500 annuatty. The society receives several eenall requests for Infornnation each day. We also receive several letters of request per week and field approximately 100 phone calls each month. The Adams County Convention ano Visitors Center,Chamber of Commerce,colleges.Hastings Library,county orlxes,and city offices all refer people to us for research assistance. Our web site www edamshistorv.o q,makes ere history of Hastings and of Adams County Instantly available to anyone anywhere in the world. it contains a brief history of each village,the Regional Center and the Naval Ammunition Depot it also gives a history of every school district,provides a history of many ethnic groups,a history and description of National Register of Historic Places buildings and districts in the county,a historic map of the county,and slide shows picturing many historic buildings. There is also a photographic tour of the Oregon Trail across Adams County, In addition to providing free Information and a free research facility the society does the fo"owing 1. Provides free storage space for many original county records including marriage records,naturalization records. school records and probate files. The Foote Family provides us with valuable off site storage space free of charge 2. Researches and prints six issues of the Historical News and t+ro newsletters annually, These are distributed free to all schools,libraries and nursing homes in the county. 3. Assists local el:W=0M by providing local history information to students ranging from grade school through coliege graduate level,and we provide study units on architecture and historic preservation,the Oregon Trail and oral history- (H01-11). 4. Erects and maintains historical markers. Volunteers mow and trim around the Oregon Trail markers throughout the growing season. 5. The society provides guides for Leadership Hastings and programs for Koos Aid Days, With the move back to downtown Hastings,we will once again provide docents for the Trolley Tours, We also provide free speakers for local organizations,reunions and convections. Among other programs,Elizabeth Spilinek gave a presentation for a"Day of Caring for Those Who Care." 6. The society continues to serve as a liaison between local indiv duels and businesses and the state preservation office Elizabeth Spilinek serves on the CRA's downtown facade and signage grant committee. The fruit of those labors is visible In downtown Hastings. The society encourages and assists building restoration which increases the property tax base and employs local contractors. The Historic Hastings Commerc. District National Register of Historic Places nomination will be considered on September 21,0. 7. We wit continue our partnership wilt the Hastings Community Theatre this year to produce the sixth Adams County Cemetery Welk in September. Its purpose is to increase awareness of the histone value of cemeteries and to raise funds for both organizations. The 2017 walk was attended by 276 people. Juniata is the she for the 2018 tour. 8. In February,ACHS board member Les Harms began a radio program,'Moments in Tina,"which airs every 201 and 45 Friday at 8:45aam and 8:40as on KHAS Radio. Programs are archived on the KHAS Radio website. Each dollar spent to fund the Adams County historical Society is recovered several times in the local economy,plus the society spends grant money locally.Out of town researches who travel here to visit our archive and to lout the historic districts,eat shop and stay overnight in Hastings. This last year out-of-county researchers from the following states signed our guest book: Nebraska,Oregon,California,New Mexico,Kansas,Arizona,Florida,North Caroline.Colorado, Minnesota,Washington,Illinois,Arkansas.Maryland,Georgia,South Dakota.Canada and South Korea,. In many cases each person who registers represents a family group spending time shopping and dining in Hastings- We provide visitors with information to help extend their stay here by encouraging them to tour Hastings'two historic dstricts,to spend a day using the downtown walking tour,the new Naval Ammunition Depot tour.and to travel across the county using our self guided Oregon Trait tour, With one part tante employee and many dedicated volunteers,the society accomplishes a tremendous amount for the 4_ citizens of Adams County on a very limited budget We are requesting from you the same amount as last year,512,400 annually. We are deeply grateful for your help and could not do what we do without your support Adams County Extension Office Director, Ron Seymour, requested the board consider approving claims submitted for fuel reimbursement on a state owned car used for county business.The Extension Office has recently acquired a car from the State of Nebraska to be used for Extension Office business,this car may also be used for county business.The only cost for using the car is the cost of the fuel.Seymour is requesting the county pay for fuel when the car is used for county business.The cost of fuel only would be less than the current rate of$ .54 per mile currently being paid to employees for mileage reimbursement when using their own car. Miller has reviewed the resolution and is requesting approval.
