A regular meeting of the Adams County Board of Supervisors was held as per public notice given with Vice - Chairman, Chuck Neumann, presiding. Roll call members present were: Thomsen,
Curtis, Neumann, Hynes Orthmann and Saathoff. Woodman was absent.
Motion by Orthmann, seconded by Hynes, that this is a Board of Equalization meeting of the Adams County Board of Supervisors and public notice of this meeting has been given by publication
in the Hastings Tribune and by posting. An agenda was available to the members and an agenda was kept currently amended and posted in the County Clerk’s office. Roll call, ayes: Thomsen,
Curtis, Neumann, Hynes, Orthmann and Saathoff . Woodman, absent. Nays, none.
The Vice - Chairman announced the locations of the open meetings law and agendas in the room.
The purpose of this meeting is to set the 2010 tax levies for entities in Adams County.
County Clerk Lewis told the Board that she has not received budget requests from West Blue, Verona or Zero Townships. In previous years the Board has allowed townships that did not
file budgets to give them the previous year’s levy, however the State Auditor has said that the Board has the discretion to allow this but could be problematic since the township did
not actually file a budget. In discussion the Board determined that not allowing a levy would not generate funds for the townships to pay the County their road maintenance fees that
they are responsible for by way of an Interlocal Agreement. The Board hoped that with the recent passage of a new statute allowing counties to assume townships for lack of inactivity
may resolve this problem in the future.
Motion by Hynes, seconded by Curtis to set the 2010 tax levies for entities in Adams County as proposed:
