HomeMy WebLinkAboutSP05-05-09COURTHOUSE HASTINGS NEBRASKA Tuesday, May 5, 2009 A regular meeting of the Adams County Board of Supervisors was held as per public notice given with Chairman, Larry Woodman, presiding. Roll call members present were: Kehoe, Larson, Neumann, Hynes, Saathoff and Woodman. Orthmann was absent. Motion by Saathoff, seconded by Kehoe, that this meeting is a regular meeting of the Adams County Board of Supervisors and public notice of this meeting has been given by publication in the Hastings Tribune and by posting. An agenda was available to the members and an agenda was kept currently amended and posted in the County Clerk’s office. Roll call, ayes: Kehoe, Larson, Neumann, Hynes, Saathoff and Woodman. Nays, none. Orthmann, absent. The Chairman announced the locations of the open meetings law and agendas in the room. Kehoe had a Buildings & Grounds meeting this morning. They will be advertising for bids for replacement windows at the Adams County Office Building and for a new county phone system. CASA also held their Spring Fling fund raiser last week and had a good crowd. They also have a golf tournament coming up at Fox Hollow in Sutton. Saathoff attended a Chamber meeting on the 22nd, the NIRMA phone conference on the 23rd and rode the train with his grandkids on the 25th. Hynes attended the Road Committee meeting this morning and the NIRMA phone conference on the 23rd. Neumann attended the Board workshop meeting on the 21st about the county purchase card program, a seminar on foreign animal disease in McCook, an emergency meeting on the H1N1 flu on Sunday and a meeting of the pandemic flu committee, a DARE graduation yesterday, Planning meeting last night and the Buildings & Grounds Committee meeting this morning. Larson attended the NIRMA phone conference on the 23rd, the Board work session on the 21st and the Road Committee meeting this morning. Woodman attended the NIRMA phone conference, took the train ride with his grandkids and attended the DARE graduation yesterday. During the public comments portion of the meeting Dawn Miller, Highway Superintendent, updated the Board on the County’s bridge projects and the asphalt overlay on S Showboat Blvd. She also thanked Shay Burk, Tribune reporter, for her time and story on the bridges in Adams County. Dianne Fowler, director of Midland Area Agency on Aging presented the agency’s funding request for fiscal year 2009-2010. Chairman Woodman stated that her request would be considered with the others during budget time. Chuck Neumann presented information to the Board regarding the H1N1 flu and the current efforts being taken in Adams County and the state to prevent the spread of the flu. He also stated that people should stop referring to the disease as swine flu and call it the H1N1 flu. Marv Schultes of Hastings Utilities appeared before the Board to answer any questions they may have regarding the passing of a resolution to recognize the City of Hastings and Hastings Utilities Wellhead Protection Boundaries. Attorney Daiss read the resolution into the record. Motion by Neumann, seconded by Larson to approve and authorize the Chairman to sign Resolution 09-05-05 recognizing the City of Hastings and Hastings Utilities Wellhead Protection Boundaries. Roll call, ayes: Kehoe, Larson, Neumann, Hynes, Saathoff and Woodman. Nays, none. Orthmann, absent. Complete Resolution on file in the County clerk’s office. Clerk Lewis reported to the Board that she had received a contract from the Nebraska Dept of Roads for the services of the county surveyor to set corners on a state road project west of Hastings on Highway 6. She stated that the contract has been discussed with Surveyor Tom Krueger and he has no problems with the agreement. Motion by Saathoff, seconded by Hynes to approve and authorize the Chairman to sign the contracts with the Nebraska Dept. of Roads for surveyor services for a state road project on Highway 6 west of Hastings. Roll call, ayes: Kehoe, Larson, Neumann, Hynes, Saathoff and Woodman. Nays, none. Orthmann, absent. Attorney Daiss reported that the lease agreements with RYDE Community Action Partnership for the County transit vehicles have been misplaced and asked the Board to authorize the Chairman to re-sign the agreements. Motion by Hynes, seconded by Saathoff to approve and authorize the Chairman to re-sign the lease agreements with RYDE/Community Action partnership for the County transit vehicles. Roll call, ayes: Kehoe, Larson, Neumann, Hynes, Saathoff and Woodman. Nays, none. Orthmann, absent. Motion by Larson, seconded by Kehoe to approve claims and authorize the County Clerk to pay the same from their respective funds. Roll call, ayes: Kehoe, Larson, Neumann, Hynes, Saathoff and Woodman. Nays, none. Orthmann, absent. Motion by Saathoff, seconded by Larson to accept officer reports from the County Clerk, Sheriff and Clerk of District Court for the month of April.
