1. FOR PAVEMENT DETAILS REFER TO NDOR STANDARD PLANS 301—R8 AND 329—R4.
2. CURB RAMPS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED ACCORDING TO NDOR SPECIAL PLAN 1C.
3. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR TRAFFIC CONTROL. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL DEVELOP A TRAFFIC CONTROL PLAN
IN ACCORDANCE WITH NDOR STANDARD PLANS 920—R5, 921—R4, & 922—R5; NDOR SPECIAL PLAN 2C TYPICAL URBAN TRAFFIC
CONTROL PLAN; AND WITH THE MOST CURRENT EDITION ON THE MANUAL UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES (MUTCD).
4. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REMOVE AND SALVAGE ALL SIGNS TO THE CITY. THIS WORK SHALL BE CONSIDERED SUBSIDIARY.
5. CAST IRON RINGS, COVERS, FRAMES AND GRATES FOR STORM SEWER STRUCTURES WILL NOT BE PAID
SEPARATELY.
6. LOCATIONS OF ALL AERIAL AND UNDERGROUND UTILITY FACILITIES MAY NOT BE INDICATED IN THESE PLANS. UNDERGROUND
UTIUTIES INDICATED OR NOT WILL BE LOCATED AND FLAGGED BY THE UTILITIES AT THE REQUEST OF THE CONTRACTOR. NO
EXCAVATION WILL BE PERMITTED IN THE AREA OF THE UNDERGROUND FACILITIES UNTIL ALL SUCH FACILITIES HAVE BEEN LOCATED
AND IDENTIFIED TO THE SATISFACTION OF ALL PARTIES. THE EXCAVATION MUST BE ACCOMPLISHED WITH EXTREME CARE IN ORDER
TO AVOID ANY POSSIBILITY OF DAMAGE TO THE UTILITY FACILITY.

8. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROTECT THE EXISTING SPRINKLER HEADS AND LINES. IF THERE IS A CONFLICT, THE SPRINKLER HEAD SHALL

HORIZONTAL SEPARATION OF 10 FEET AND SHALL BE EVENLY SPACED

7. ALL COMBINATION POLE FOUNDATIONS SHALL BE FITTED WITH A MINIMUM
OF ONE SPARE CONDUIT BEND IN ORDER TO PROVIDE ACCESS FOR LIGHTING
POWER SERVICE.
8. SIGNAL HEAD LENSES SHALL BE ORIENTED ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURERS
RECOMMENDATIONS STAMPED ON THE LENS.
9. THE INSTALLATION SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE NATIONAL ELECTRIC

10. TRAFFIC SIGNAL INSTALLATION SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH NEBRASKA
DEPARTMENT OF ROADS STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION, 1997
AND THE MANUAL ON UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES (MUTCD), LATEST EDITION.
11. ALL SIGNAL HEADS SHALL BE ILLUMINATED WITH LIGHT EMITTING DIODE (LED) MODULES.
LED MODULES SHALL CONFORM TO ITE AND NDOR SPECIFICATIONS FOR LED VEHICLE
TRAFFIC SIGNAL MODULES.
12. ALL TRAFFIC SIGNAL ITEMS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH NDOR APPROVED
PRODUCTS LISTING.
13, TRAFFIC SIGNAL CABLE AND DETECTOR LEAD-IN CABLE SHALL NOT BE BROKEN AND SPLICED
BETWEEN THE CONTROLLER CABINET AND THE CABLES FINAL DESTINATION WITHOUT THE
APPROVAL OF THE NEBRASKA DEPARTMENT OF ROADS TRAFFIC ENGINEERING DIVISION.
APPROVED SPLICES SHALL ONLY BE MADE IN CABINETS, PULL BOXES, JUNCTION BOXES,
POLE BASES, AND SIGNAL HEADS. SPLICES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN EARTH, CONDUIT, OR
EXPOSED AERIALLY.
CONDUCTORS TO BE SPLICED SHALL BE TWISTED TOGETHER TO FORM A MECHANICALL Y
AND ELECTRICALLY SECURE CONNECTION, SECURED WITH A WIRE NUT OR SOLDER, AND
WATERPROOFED..THE WATERPROOFING SHALL EXTEND A MINIMUM OF 1 -INCH OVER THE
CONDUCTOR INSUATION. SPLICES IN CABINETS SHALL NOT BE WATERPROOFED.

POLE SPECIFICATIONS
5. TRAFFIC SIGNAL MAST ARMS, LUMINAIRE MAST ARMS, LUMINAIRE
EXTENSIONS AND POLE SHAFTS SHALL BE SUPPLIED WITH 1" I.D.
RUBBER GROMMETS FOR CABLE INLETS. SIGNAL MAST ARMS SHALL
ALSO BE SUPPLIED WITH 1" RUBBER GROMMETS FOR THE NUMBER
OF SIGNALS SPECIFIED IN THE LOADING CHART. ALL INLET HOLES
SHALL BE DRILLED IN THE FIELD BY THE CONTRACTOR.
6. POLE CAPS SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH EACH POLE SHAFT OR LUMINAIRE
EXTENSION, AND SIGNAL MAST ARM.
7. ALL HAND HOLES SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM OPENING OF 4" X 6". POLE
SHAFTS AND LUMINAIRE EXTENSIONS SHALL BE SUPPLIED WITH HAND
HOLE COVERS. THE HAND HOLE SHALL BE REINFORCED TO MAINTAIN
FULL STRENGTH OF THE POLE. HAND HOLE SHALL BE LOCATED AWAY
FROM TRAFFIC.
8. SIGNAL MAST ARMS SHALL HAVE A MAXIMUM RISE OF 5° UNLOADED
AND A MINIMUM RISE OF 0° AT THE END OF THE MAST WHEN ARM
FULLY LOADED.
9. EACH POLE SHAFT, LUMINAIRE EXTENSION, LUMINAIRE ARM AND
SIGNAL ARM SHALL BE FURNISHED WITH ALL MISCELLANEOUS

3. PREFORMED LOOPS SHALL BE USED WHEN NEW PAVEMENT IS POURED, SAW CUT LOOPS ARE NOT AN ACCEPTABLE ALTERNATE TO
PREFORMED LOOPS.
4. SAW CUTS.
A. ALL SAW CUTS SHALL BE MADE WITH A WATER COOLED SAW BLADE.
B. IMMEDIATELY BEFORE LAYING THE LOOP CABLE, THE SAW CUT SHALL BE THOROUGHLY CLEANED AND DRIED WITH HIGH
PRESSURE COMPRESSED AIR.
C. THE WIRE SHALL BE POSITIONED BY USE OF A BLUNT INSTRUMENT SO AS TO MINIMIZE THE CHANCE OF DAMAGE TO THE
CABLE INSULATION (THE USE OF A SCREW DRIVER, SAWBLADE, ETC. WILL NOT BE PERMITTED).
D. AFTER THE LOOP WIRE IS INSTALLED, APPROVED LOOP DETECTOR SEALANT SHALL BE USED TO FILL THE SAW CUT
BEFORE MOISTURE OR DIRT CAN ACCUMULATE. LOOP INSTALLATION MAY BE RESTRICTED DUE TO ADVERSE CLIMATIC

E. AVOID CROSSING PAVEMENT JOINTS AND CRACKS.
5. TD -5 & PREFORMED LOOPS.

1. POLE FAILURES AND IRREGULAR BREAKAWAY PERFOMANCE CAN
RESULT FROM IMPROPER INSTALLATION OF THE TRANSFORMER BASE.
TO OBTAIN THE MAXIMUM CAPABILITY OF EACH BASE THE CONTRACTOR
MUST COMPLY WITH THE FOLLOWING:
(A) USE THE LARGEST POSSIBLE BOLT CIRCLES, BOTH TOP AND BOTTOM.
(B) USE GALVANIZED STEEL WASHERS OF THE SIZE AND TYPE ILLUSTRATED.
(THE HOLD DOWN AND CONNECTING WASHERS ARE USUALLY FURNISHED
BY THE TRANSFORMER BASE MANUFACTURER).
(C) INSTALL WASHERS EXACTLY AS SHOWN.
(D) SHIM BETWEEN FOUNDATION AND TRANSFORMER BASE IF NEEDED
USING ONLY REGULAR "U" SHAPED SHIM STOCK CAPABLE OF PROVIDING
SUPPORT ON THREE SIDES OF THE ANCHOR BOLT. INSTALL WITH
BACK EDGE OF SHIM FLUSH WITH BOTTOM EDGE OF TRANSFORMER BASE.

4. ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS IN POLE OR TRANSFORMER BASE SHALL BE MADE
USING U.L. APPROVED, ABOVE GROUND, MULTI -CABLE, ALLEN HEAD SET SCREW,
CONNECTOR BLOCKS WITH PREFORMED INSULATING COVERS. COMPRESSION TAPS
AND TAPING WILL NOT BE ALLOWED.
THE CONNECTOR BLOCK MUST CONTAIN THE CORRECT NUMBER OF CABLE ENTRANCES
TO ALLOW ONE CONDUCTOR PER WIRE HOLE AND MUST BE RATED FOR THE SIZE(S)
AND TYPE(S) OF CABLE BEING USED. ANTIOXIDANT COMPOUND SHALL BE USED AND
PROPER PROCEDURES FOLLOWED.
THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION, WHEN COMPLETE, SHALL BE FULLY INSULATED TO
PREVENT ACCIDENTAL CONTACT WITH LIVE COMPONENTS. ALL OPENINGS SHALL BE
CLOSED BY TAPING OR OTHER METHODS APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER.
5. AN EQUIPMENT GROUNDING CONDUCTOR SHALL BE BONDED:
(A) TO ALL POLES OR TRANSFORMER BREAKAWAY BASES.
(B) AT ALL CONTROL CENTER SERVICE LOCATIONS.
(C) TO ALL METALLIC NONCURRENT CARRYING COMPONENTS.
(D) TO ALL GROUND RODS.
6. IN PULL BOXES, POLE BASES, JUNCTION BOXES AND CONTROL CABINETS, THE
DIRECTION OF EACH CABLE RUN SHALL BE INDICATED BY ATTACHING A PERMANENT
TAG OF RIGID PLASTIC OR NON-FERROUS METAL TO THE CONDUIT. TAGS SHALL BE
EMBOSSED, STAMPED OR ENGRAVED WITH LETTERS 3/16" OR GREATER IN HEIGHT AND
SECURED TO THE CONDUIT WITH NYLON OR PLASTIC TIES.
IN INSTANCES WHERE THE CONDUIT OR CONDUIT ENTRANCES ARE NOT VISIBLE
OR ACCESSIBLE, AS IN ANCHOR BASE INSTALLATIONS, A DIRECTION TAG SHALL BE
ATTACHED TO EACH CABLE.
7. CONDUIT SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 405 OF THE
"STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION", ENGLISH EDITION.
8. ALL METALUC AND NONMETALLIC CONDUIT SHALL BEAR THE U.L. LABEL.
9. UNLESS INDICATED OTHERWISE IN THE PLANS:
(A) ALL CONDUIT SHALL BE 1 1/2 ".
(B) CONDUIT PLACED IN TRENCH OR UNDER THE ROADWAY SHALL BE
NONMETALLIC AND OF THE FOLLOWING TYPES AS DEFINED IN THE
SPECIFICATIONS: PVC, FRE, OR CID.
(C) NONMETALLIC CONDUIT SURFACED MOUNTED ON STRUCTURES OR USED
AS RISERS SHALL BE SCHEDULE 80 PVC.
(D) METALLIC CONDUIT WHEN USED SHALL BE TYPE GRS OR IMC.
(E) GALVANIZED INTERMEDIATE METAL CONDUIT (IMC) MAY BE USED IN LIEU
OF GALVANIZED RIGID STEEL CONDUIT (GRS).
(F) CONDUIT PLACED IN GROUND SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM EARTH COVER OF
30" UNLESS INDICATED OTHERWISE.
10. CONDUIT UNDER ROADWAY SHALL BE MEASURED FOR PAYMENT AS EXTENDING 1 FT.
BEYOND THE EDGE OF THE ROADWAY SURFACE (INCLUDING SURFACED SHOULDERS).
11. JACKED CONDUIT MAY BE EITHER METALUC OR NONMETALLIC.
12. TRENCHING SHALL BE KEPT A MINIMUM OF 5 FT. FROM THE TRUNK OF EXISTING
TREES. JACKING MAY BE REQUIRED UNDER THE CENTER OF LARGE TREES IN
LIMITED SPACE.
13. ROUTING OF CONDUIT AND CABLE MAY BE ALTERED BY THE PROJECT ENGINEER,
IF NECESSARY, TO SUIT FIELD CONDITIONS.
14. INSTALL SPARE BENDS AS SHOWN ON PLANS. SPARE BENDS MUST BE SECURELY
CAPPED OR PLUGGED AT BOTH ENDS WITH FITTINGS OF THE CORRECT SIZE AND TYPE
FOR THE CONDUIT BEING USED.
15. CONDUIT DRAINS ARE NOT REQUIRED.
16. LIGHTING CONDUIT AND TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONDUIT MAY BE LAID IN THE SAME TRENCH.
17. LUMINAIRES SHALL BE LEVELED AFTER POLE HAS BEEN INSTALLED ON FOUNDATION.
LUMINAIRE MOUNTING BOLTS SHALL BE TORQUED TO MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATIONS.
18. STREET LIGHTING SYSTEM MUST MEET PROJECT ENGINEERS FINAL INSPECTION.
ROADWAY LIGHTING SYSTEMS ARE NOT SUBJECT TO STATE OR LOCAL ELECTRICAL
INSPECTION. ELECTRICAL WORK PERFORMED ON REST AREAS OR WEIGH STATIONS
WILL REQUIRE AN ELECTRICAL PERMIT AND WILL BE SUBJECT TO A FINAL INSPECTION.
19. CONTACT UTILITY THREE WORKING DAYS PRIOR TO REQUIRING SERVICE CONNECTION.
20. GROUNDING CONNECTIONS IN PULL BOXES AND JUNCTION BOXES SHALL BE MADE
